Southampton beat Leeds United 1-0 to secure promotion to the Premier League

Highlights from Wembley as Southampton edge out ten-man Leeds

Adam Armstrong's first-half goal settles the Championship play-off final

Southampton are back in the Premier League after beating Leeds United 1-0 in the Championship play-off final at Wembley.

Adam Armstrong scored the only goal of the game in the first half, with Leeds reduced to ten men after Liam Cooper was sent off for a second bookable offence.

Southampton held on to their lead in the second half, with Leeds unable to find a way through a resolute Saints defence.

The win means that Southampton return to the Premier League after a one-season absence, while Leeds remain in the Championship for another year.

Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl said: "I'm very proud of my players. They showed great character and determination to win this game. We knew it would be a tough match, but we stuck to our game plan and got the result we wanted."

Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa said: "I'm disappointed that we lost the game, but I'm proud of my players. They gave everything they had and came close to winning. We will learn from this experience and come back stronger next season."

The result leaves Southampton celebrating a memorable victory, while Leeds are left to rue a missed opportunity to return to the Premier League.
